This beautiful garden project was particularly special, with the design inspired by the client's desire to create a space that would remind her of her late mum.
A Garden Designed Around Memories
Many of the plants used in this garden had originally come from the client's mum's home, making the finished garden much more than simply an outdoor space — it became somewhere to relax, enjoy the sunshine and create new memories while keeping a connection to the past.
The client approached us with a clear vision and an initial design, which gave us an excellent starting point. Our role was to bring that vision to life while adding our own expertise and attention to detail throughout the build.
The existing garden had an old pond and a dated pergola, neither of which suited how the client wanted to use the space. We transformed the garden into several distinct areas, each with its own purpose. A curved seating area now forms a focal point where the old pond once stood, providing the perfect spot for morning coffee and relaxing in the sunshine.
Adjacent to the house, we created a high-quality composite deck using Millboard decking, complete with an angled picture-frame border and a new roofed pergola. The sealed roof provides shelter while allowing the space to be enjoyed throughout the year. Oak posts and carefully positioned lighting add warmth and character to the modern design.
At the other end of the garden, a further seating area provides space for sun loungers and outdoor dining when friends and family visit. The new lawn ties all three areas together, keeping the garden open, balanced and in proportion.
Bespoke Details and Quality Materials
One of the most challenging aspects of the project was the construction of the bespoke tiled planters and curved features. The planters were carefully built and finished with porcelain tiles and matching coping, creating a contemporary finish while providing generous planting space.
The curved wall was another particularly intricate element. Oak sleepers were carefully constructed to create the sweeping curve, with the porcelain paving then cut precisely around the shape. Achieving the desired finish required considerable time, accuracy and attention to detail.
The garden was completed with carefully positioned planting and integrated outdoor lighting, including illumination around the planters, sleepers and oak pergola posts. These details bring the garden to life in the evening and highlight the key features of the design.
A Garden Built Around the Client
What really made this project stand out was the client's passion for the garden and the clear vision she had from the outset. Working closely together allowed us to create a garden that was not only beautiful and contemporary, but also genuinely personal to her.
From the bespoke curved seating area and tiled planters to the Millboard decking, oak pergola and carefully considered lighting, every element was designed to create a garden that could be enjoyed in different ways throughout the day.
Most importantly, the finished garden provides a beautiful setting for the plants that once belonged to her mum — creating a lasting connection between the old garden and a completely new space.
